About Us

Double Diamond D Ranch

Farm Background

Double Diamond D is a family-owned specialized horse farm originally founded in 1997 and located in the piney woods of East Texas.  I am Paul Driver, a native Texan, married in 2001 to Kandy Kunkel Driver (from Breckenridge, Texas), with two children and a deep rooted family passion for horses.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a horse. Looking back on my life, in fact, I can’t even think of a time when I didn’t own a horse.  My step-father, Carl Wilson, trained reining horses in Cedar Hill, Texas and apprenticed with Cal Cooper in Scottsdale, Arizona. As a result of his training, I grew up “West Coast” oriented for horses. I have a true passion for a nice hackamore horse or the ultimate of equestrian goals:  a California bridle horse.  My role models run the gamut --- from Monte Foreman, Doug Mulholland, Al Dunning, John Hoyt and Clyde Kennedy, to the more modern horse training teachings of Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, and Clinton Anderson.

Horse Philosophy

I have attempted to take the best horsemanship from each of these sources to create a program that will produce a solid mount that is polished and well-rounded. There are no short-cuts for quality. While this method is “old school,” and time consuming, there is no comparison using this technique to a “30 day wonder.”

Kandy especially enjoys imprinting the foals and mixes her love of photography with her passion for the horses. Many of the photos on this website were taken by her. She is also very active in the day-to-day business operations of the farm.

Family Philosophy

Kandy and I have two children, Dean who was born December 2002, and Karsen who was born August 2004. Our personal family goal is to serve God’s will. We feel blessed to have these horses in our lives and to be stewards of this land.

Mission & Goal

It
is our mission to make every generation of our horses better and to help pursue a horses' full potential. Our goal is to produce quality, foundation variety horses with," balance, bone, big hips, and beautiful heads. "  Our business goal is reaching and achieving a wide range of satisfied customers.  We feel the greatest compliment in doing business is offering good horse stock and having returning clients. In this world of declining values, quality, and substance, there are very few islands of quality, horsemanship and tradition. These virtues, elements and opportunities are found at The Double Diamond D Ranch in Wood County, Texas.
