Biography

Paul & Kandy DriverMy name is Paul Driver and my family and I are Double Diamond D. Although the formal company started in 1997, I am one of those native sons of Texas who does not ever remember not having a horse. My step-father, Carl Wilson, trained reining horses in Cedar Hill, Texas and apprenticed with Cal Cooper in Scottsdale, Arizona. As a result of his training, I grew up very, “West Coast” oriented. I have a true passion for a nice hackamore horse or the ultimate of equestrian goals, a California bridle horse.

My role models run the gamut from Monte Foreman, Doug Mulholland, Al Dunning, John Hoyt and Clyde Kennedy to the more modern teachings of Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, and Clinton Anderson. I have attempted to take the best horsemanship from each of these sources to create a program that will produce a solid mount that is well-rounded. There are no short-cuts for quality. While this method is “old school,” and time consuming, there is no comparison to a “30 day wonder.”

I met and married Kandy Kunkel from Breckenridge, Texas in 2001. Kandy especially enjoys imprinting the foals and mixes her love of photography with her passion for the horses. Many of the photos in this website were taken by her. She is also very active in the day to day business operations of the farm.

We have two children, Dean who was born December 2002, and Karsen who was born August 2004. Our personal goal is to serve God’s will. We feel blessed to have these horses in our lives and to be stewards of this land. It is our mission to make every generation of our horses better and the horses we have reach their full potential.

Our business goal is a satisfied customer. The greatest compliment is a returning client. In this world of declining values, quality, and substance, there are a few islands of quality, horsemanship and tradition. One of which is in Wood County, Texas.
